Home Surveillance Systems: Fortifying The Home

Home is where is the heart is. It is, thus, only fitting that you go through extra lengths to protect your home. Home surveillance systems used to be costly and complicated. Today, any homeowner can install any of the home surveillance systems in the market.

Is there a Need for Home Surveillance Systems?

What does a homeowner away on vacation and a parent at work have in common? They worry about the same thing: what goes on at home while they are away. By installing any of the home surveillance systems available today, they can put their worries to rest. So, is there a need for home surveillance systems? If you’re a homeowner away on vacation, a parent who is mostly at work, a homeowner with contractors crawling all over your home, or a landlord who has leased several properties, your answer would most certainly be a resounding yes.

Home surveillance systems may rely on any of the following to meet homeowners’ security needs and budget: webcam surveillance, wireless IP technologies, and wireless sensors. Let’s take a look at these home surveillance systems.

Webcam Surveillance Systems with Motion Sensors

Many webcam surveillance systems integrate motion-detecting software. The reason for this is simple. Recording only takes place when something moves in front of the motion sensors. This saves memory space on your hard drive. It also saves time because captured images are instantly emailed to users. The good thing about this, aside from being memory-friendly and time-efficient, is that you may easily access the images through a static IP address.

There are, however, many drawbacks to webcam home surveillance systems. First, webcams have fixed positions. This limits their range. Additionally, they are USB-based devices that do not function if they are more than 16 feet away from the computer or USB hub. Additionally, they capture very poor images in dim surroundings.

Wireless Sensors, With Cameras or Without

Most home surveillance systems of this type come with two motion and sound-detecting cameras. On top of that, they also come with sensors that alert homeowners to certain things, such as the presence of leak, a door being opened, and even worrying levels of temperature fluctuation. Captured images are sent to a computer, PDA, or cell phone via a broadband connection. It is also possible for homeowners to purchase motion sensors without cameras. Wireless sensors without cameras issue alerts with high frequency wave signals in most and infrared light, in some.

Wireless IP video Cameras

These home surveillance systems are better known as “nanny cams.” Tiny spy cameras or wireless video cameras are hidden somewhere in a room. They send their video signal to a local base station and from there, homeowners can view the images from a television, mobile phone, PDA, laptop, or desktop computer. The disadvantage of home surveillance systems of this type is that of the camera is low-end, its wireless signals might be picked up by people who cruise streets in search of homeowners whose wireless signals they can hack into. Fortunately, higher-end cameras provide more security because their transmissions are encrypted and are tied with standard WiFi networks.

Market trends show that there is a big future for home surveillance systems. So, expect smaller, faster, and more reliable home surveillance technologies in the next few years. Manufacturers of home surveillance systems will never run out of a market to tap into because for as long as people have homes, they will always want them protected.

Security Cameras – Choosing the Best Security Cameras for Your Home

Choosing the best security cameras for your home should not have to be a difficult task. If you keep in mind the things that matter most to you, that will ensure you get the right security cameras for your needs the first time. Determining what part of the home you wish to view is the first step.

There are so many areas to your home, it can become expensive getting enough cameras needed to view them all. With a few carefully placed cameras with a wide lens to capture those key areas, you save on money and worry. You can also keep in mind that some security cameras might be mounted outside of your home and need to be weatherproof, especially in areas where the weather changes more often than not.

Some surveillance systems might require holes to not only mount to your home but transmit video to your recording device, but this is avoidable using wireless security cameras. If the things you are concerned about are indoor, then look into the various security cameras available to not only use inside but to also look like household items.

Wireless cameras can be made from a variety of items, including clocks, radios, lamps, packs of cigarettes and almost anything you can think of to keep your possessions safe. For those areas where there is barely any light in the room but you still want to capture any movement, there are cameras with night vision so you don’t miss a moment. Hopefully with these options in your knowledge, you can find the right products for you.

Utilizing Home Surveillance Security Systems

For many people, a home surveillance security system is one of the best ways to protect those you love. Having a secure system to watch your home will help you have the peace of mind to rest comfortably. When you leave for work or vacation, you will know that a security system is monitoring your home effectively. You do not have to worry about the kids coming home from school to house with burglars, or awake to find the house had been broken into the night before.

A variety of security systems is available for your home to keep these and other dangerous incidents from happening. You can choose a motion sensor that is sensitive to catch and distinguish between the movements of dangerous intruders from that of your children and pets. This allows you to have the best in security without the inconvenience of false alarms. Many security systems do not provide for a difference like this. Therefore, when shopping for a quality home surveillance security system, it is important to find a system that offers the best of both worlds.

Another feature to look for in a home surveillance security system is a panic button. If you home and encounter a dangerous situation, you need a fast and easy way to get help. Some of the best security systems allow for this. They offer access to emergency help quickly when a phone is not nearby.

Many security packages offer other features as well. If you are looking for complete home security protection, look for security systems that also send off signals when dangerous levels of carbon monoxide are detected. Some systems will also detect dangerous levels of smoke in your home and get help directly to your doorstep. Other systems will also monitor for glass breaking.

CCTV Home Surveillance System

When you monitor your home or office with closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance, it’s like you have an entire television network devoted to the safety of your home. CCTV broadcasts your security surveillance on a private in-home network. Unlike broadcast television, CCTV components are hooked directly to each other via cables or direct wireless means.

Already popular in large public places where security is heightened, such as at airports or casinos, Surveillance systems are becoming more and more widely used in private home settings as well.

CCTV is inexpensive and simple to use, and it will help increase your security and your peace of mind.

Technology and Crime

Many independent studies in the United States and United Kingdom have suggested that CCTV surveillance acts as a powerful deterrent, stopping crimes before they happen. Studies also show strong evidence that CCTV can be an extremely effective tool in detection and prosecution. The men believed to have been responsible for the July terrorist attacks on London’s public transport system were later identified on the prevalent CCTV networks in the U.K.’s public places.

Your home is your castle, and you have the right to protect it. However, you want to remain on the right side of the law. Therefore, when installing a camera system in your home, it is important that you are certain of the legality of your surveillance. Consult with a lawyer or your local law enforcement to ensure that you are meeting all the requirements of local, state, and federal CCTV laws.

Home Surveillance Systems – Paranoia or Necessity?

Some homeowners may still think that Home Surveillance camera systems are only for the paranoid members of society. However, this is not the case to many homeowners throughout the country. These systems are an excellent way for homeowners to keep watch over their property, so that they can stop or minimize theft or vandalism at their homes. Any tool can be used for any purpose decided by the owner, but advanced home surveillance camera systems can simply work in the background, recording from cameras onto a hard drive for storage. If nothing happens, the video will automatically be over-written once the hard drive fills up. If something does occur however, then the video footage can be used for evidence with the police.

Home Surveillance Cameras are not meant for people to just watch their property constantly, they are designed in such a way that you will not have to watch your property all of the time, because the system is recording. In fact, the only time you will even have to watch the video, is when you wake up to find that your property has been vandalized or theft has occurred.

Good quality Home Surveillance Systems are a tool to help prevent and provide evidence of theft, burglary or vandalism in your home. These systems can always record your property, so that you can have peace of mind that your property is being watched. While some may use surveillance cameras as tools of paranoia, most homeowners simply use home surveillance cameras as a tool to help them protect their family.
